Me: today in morning meeting we are going to talk about what we did over Thanksgiving. Would you start us off?
3rd grader: well uh uh me and my cousin were playing in the house, this man walked up and uh he said knock knock. He didn't say it but you know he uh knocked. Then he really said "who's in the house?" I said "no one is home! Ughh leave a message after the beep. Beeeeeeepppp! Then we ran and uh we jumped out the window!
#2 third grader: Does that mean we can talk about Black Friday?
Me: Sure
#2 third grader: well I went shopping for TVs. I screamed your name Ms. Ellard I thought I saw you!
Me: wasn't me!
#3 third grader: I ate lots of sour cream pie!
Me: yumm. (I'm not very good at keeping a poker face)
Third grader: Ms. Ellard, Ms. Ellard! I forgot something. I'd like to apologize I forgot to bring you uh uh a piece of my grandmas million dollar pies!
Me: that's okay! I want one next time!
Third grader: it's not a million dollars, million dollars means fat!!

We look like twins Ms. Ellard!

A little girl who sticks her face up next to mine and says this while the class agrees, every single day (we look nothing alike!)
3rd Grader: Ms. Ellard they won't quit making fun of me for my eyebrow.
Other 3rd Grader: Ms. Ellard, I'm really sorry I can't help it!
Me: What happened to your eyebrow? (My jaw dropped at the sight of only one eyebrow on her face)
3rd Grader: Well, my cousin thought it'd be cool to put tape on our eyebrows.
Me: So you put tape on one eyebrow. Who pulled it off?
3rd Grader: My cousin.
Me: Okay, did you pull hers off?
3rd Grader: No, she tricked me!

Day 63

Today was the 63rd day of school, I’d know, I’ve been counting. I can say that I have made it to Thanksgiving break, and I am very thankful for that. This has been the toughest thing I have ever done, and I would like to believe people when they say it is the toughest thing I will ever do.
I can honestly say that my kids are amazing. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve had some issues with behavior. Some of my students know words that I didn’t even hear before high school. They are intelligent in ways that I could never be. My students have the biggest hearts and want to go to college more than anything. The challenge is many of them are already so far behind. I am committed to making a change in their life and I believe that they can accomplish anything they set their minds to. Here’s to another 117 days until the end of school, and 79 school days until my students take the FCAT, the test that determines if they move to the 4th grade.

I am thankful to see my family tomorrow and to be in the great state of Georgia. I can also say that I am thankful for all 18 of my students. I love them and wish the very best for every single one.
